[EN] Any performance, be it in the more established codes of the theatre or in the to-be-established codes of a public space, creates a specific contract between the audience and performer(s). Since 2015, dancer/choreographer Bryan Campbell creates interdisciplinary performances that blend text, movement, image, and song, often seeking to reveal how power is shared between the performer and the audience, and how that dynamic mirrors constellations of power in our larger social and political frameworks.
In this conference, Bryan Campbell speaks about four works, from 2015-2025, that each take different approaches to choreographing the contract between performer and audience, a retrospective look that also permits a window into his particular interrogations on gender, language, absurdity, and artifice.
[FR] Toute performance, qu’elle s’inscrive dans les codes établis du théâtre ou dans ceux, à inventer, de l’espace public, crée un contrat spécifique entre le public et les interprètes. Depuis 2015, le danseur et chorégraphe Bryan Campbell crée des performances interdisciplinaires mêlant texte, mouvement, image et chant. Il cherche souvent à révéler comment le pouvoir se partage entre l’interprète et le public, et comment cette dynamique reflète les configurations du pouvoir à l’échelle sociale et politique.
Lors de cette conférence, Bryan Campbell présente quatre œuvres créées entre 2015 et 2025, qui proposent chacune une approche différente pour chorégraphier ce contrat entre l’interprète et le public. Ce regard rétrospectif permet également d’explorer ses questionnements singuliers sur le genre, le langage, l’absurdité et l’artifice.
